Description
Bytown was a rough and tumble logging town prior to becoming Ottawa, the capital of Canada. The logging industry is tied to the city’s growth and the lumber barons that made their millions in the trade left an indelible mark. There was probably no bigger lumber baron than J. R. Booth. Booth had the rights to harvest trees across Northern Ontario and his name can be found all over Ottawa. Booth Street is named for him, and his former residence was once the Laurentian Club in more recent times.
Each lumber company would have it’s own yard, it’s own workers and it’s own stamp. Similar to a cattle brand the lumber stamp identified which company owned which logs for easy identification as they floated down the Ottawa River from the North. The Booth stamp was a simple yet stylized “B” in a diamond shape that was easy to identify and easy to make. This J.R. Booth log stamp t shirt is a natural fit for anyone that likes vintage Ottawa and history.
