Growing up in Ottawa in the 80s, Mello’s Restaurant on Dalhousie St. in the Byward Market was a mainstay. The 24 hour eatery was place where people of all walks of life would show up at any time of day. There were drunk students, ladies of the evening, business men and locals all crammed into a relatively small venue to get a coffee, a bite to eat or just to get out of the cold. For 73 years Mellos played host to these people before being forced to move out in 2015. For all those who are nostalgic for one of Ottawa’s favourite diners, here’s a Mellos Byward Market sign t shirt.
